Geometries of Anamorphic Illusions

There is a vast trend, in contemporary artistic production, based on the re-discovery of an ancient projective technique, a baroque “perspective caprice”: it consists of a violently distorted perspective called anamorphosis.

This volume intends to focus exclusively on anamorphic experiments in contemporary art and design, leaving an in-depth historical examination of its Baroque season to other studies.

Themes, languages and fields of application of anamorphosis in contemporary culture will be analysed, showing for each of them the most appropriate geometric techniques for the achievement of the expected illusion. Each typology of anamorphosis will also
be accompanied in this book by some actual installations or didactic experiments.

Visual art today is characterised by an extreme variety of expressions and languages (performances, installations, videos, digital elaborations) that base their expressiveness on experimental and innovative use of technology for enjoying the artworks.

Contemporary innovations in the art are frequently characterised by a new kinematic dimension for observers to the advantage of a strong sensorial impact and involvement, aimed at different kinds of interactivity.
